about numbers or forms. My team? They’re awesome. We just handle things. Seriously, we’re so in sync, we practically finish each other’s… well, work tasks.
Things just flow over here. We can spot a potential headache faster than you can find a free meeting room. Deadlines? Consider them conquered before they
even officially exist.
areas, guess who ends up lending a hand? Yep, my team. From colleagues with questions about the significant retirement charge applied to a grant, to “Can you
please provide the backups for the following two entries that you entered? Why fund X90-C690XX being hit by the following transactions?”, “Would you by
chance be able to shed some light on the entries below from 2024? I gather my name is attached to this because I processed the payroll but none of this
looks familiar to me. Any help/guidance that you could provide would be appreciated.” … well, stuff like these… to those times when a bit of a financial
oopsie happens somewhere else, it often lands on our plate to help sort it out. It’s a constant stream of “can you just take a look at this?” moments. And
who’s trying to untangle those unexpected messes while also doing our actual jobs? Yours truly. And probably my patient team, who are now fluent in
spreadsheet magic and the delicate art of calmly explaining confusing situations.
for various other functions – basically the calm in the middle of everyone else’s… complexities – would get a little appreciation when it’s recognition
time, right? A simple “thanks for helping keep things from completely going sideways”? Maybe enough for some decent coffee? I even got a little
acknowledgement, which was nice! But it makes you wonder what kind of work actually gets the big cheers. My acknowledgement was cool, but sometimes it feels
like my team’s quiet wins – catching those accidental overpayments, patiently explaining confusing processes, and generally smoothing out bumps in the road
– are as invisible as the Wi-Fi when you really need it.
this… thing?” My team is so efficient, we’re practically the ghosts of “that problem? Oh, we already took care of it.” Because we handle things before they
become full-blown office dramas involving multiple areas, nobody really sees the sheer amount of behind-the-scenes work we do. Meanwhile, the folks in
other areas, who occasionally need our help understanding the ripple effects of their own systems, probably get the “we dealt with it” kudos. The moral of the story? Sometimes I wonder if the secret is to just… let a few small fires burn. Perhaps a strategically placed “oops” here and there. Maybe
“accidentally” misplace a few things or pretend we don’t understand a new system for a day. Just a tiny bit of manageable chaos to showcase my
“problem-solving skills.” As for me? I’m starting to think my greatest talent might just be the ability to politely smile while internally screaming for a
raise and a significantly lighter workload. Anyone else feel my pain? Or are you all too busy putting out fires to notice?
