🎄 The 15-Day Dash to December 15th: I Wrote a Book About Budgets, But My Launch Plan is Bankrupt

A close-up shot of a patient-looking yellow Labrador resting her chin and paws gently on a small stack of four books titled, "The Unbalanced Ledger," on a colorful rug in a bright living room.

Alright, buckle up, eggnog-drinkers, because in exactly fifteen days—smack dab in the middle of holiday shopping frenzy—my book, “The Unbalanced Ledger: Budgets, Barks, and Beautifully Imperfect Living,” will launch.

For context, I’m a finance manager who wrote a fresh practical guide to money, all about shedding financial shame and establishing security without sacrificing joy. I even included unexpected life lessons from my dog, Sansa, on managing money when life throws tantrums.

The irony? My launch strategy is currently the greatest argument for my book’s premise: The goal isn’t a balanced ledger. It’s building a strong enough life to handle the beautiful, necessary imbalance.

And my launch is beautifully unbalanced.

The True Cost of My Marketing Campaign (It’s Mainly Debt)

I’m broke and introverted, with a social media presence so quiet you could hear a credit card statement drop. Instead of hiring a launch team, my “marketing department” consists of me, a pile of leftover Halloween candy, and Sansa, the furry mob boss.

My budget for professional help is $0, mostly because my criteria for a P.R. agency is that they must not require me to talk to any strangers. My social media ad spend is also $0, as I got lost trying to figure out the difference between a Reel and a Story and just gave up. The only actual expenditure is about $3.50 for the “cold, judgy coffee” I need to survive the next 15 days, and a justifiable $15 on treats, because Sansa is demanding compensation for all the judging stares she’s giving me.

My actual launch plan involves me staring at the calendar, watching the days tick down to December 15th, and wishing I had trained Sansa to do a complex interpretive dance routine about compound interest instead of just stealing rotisserie chickens.

The Book Is Real, The Panic Is Realer

I wrote this book for the fakers of perfection, the spreadsheet warriors, and anyone who’s ever whispered sorry to a spreadsheet at dawn. It’s a handshake with reality—where my nerdy Dungeons & Dragons roots meet coffee-stained adulting and real-life messes.

The truth is, I’m terrified. Launching a book about achieving freedom through finance while feeling trapped by a lack of promotional funds is its own special kind of torture.

But I’m embracing the glorious mess. If you are also tired of the shame and rigidity in budgeting, or just need a laugh to get through the holiday stress, “The Unbalanced Ledger” is for you.
